Great Upgrade to Chip OpAmps

I changed out the OPA2134 chip opamps in my Akitika PR-102 preamplifier (including headphone amp) with the Burson V6 Vivids- Wow what an improvement! While the OPA2134 are excellent opamps, the discrete V6 Vivids are much better sonically (dynamics, texture, soundstage, instrument separation/placement, etc.). I was very happy upon my first listening session, but as they "burnt in," it got even better. I feel as though I'm finally hearing everything in my hi-re recordings. I'm very happy!

Burson for Minimax DAC

My Eastern Electric Minimax DAC already had the Burson's V4 single opamps (see photo). I now replaced the dual opamps by the Burson Vivid V6. It make a difference, no huge but in details. You need some hours to wait, unitil you can realy judge the opamps, but it makes worthwhile to do so. I use the dicrete opamp to listen to Pop and jazz music and the tube output for classical music.

Great for tired ears...

Like most adults that have lived an active outdoor work life my hearing has taken a beating. Over time I noticed that I push my IEM's harder at work and get less from my headphones than I remembered. This V6 Vivid put an end to that. I am running it in a simple Douk U3 amp and it exceeds my hearing ability. Wide sweeping soundstage and great dynamics. Lol, this opamp cost about the same as the amp and headphones. But the sound is jaw dropping.

The sweet sound of tubes.

I put these in a Gustard P26 fed by a Denafrips ares II dac and I am blown away by the combo. The cymbals shimmer and it is very holographic. The soundstage is huge and it sounds very much like a high end tube preamp. I couldn't be more satisfied.

V6 Classic

Very nice discrete OPAMP. Major improvement compared to any IC OPAMP I’ve tried.

revised review

I've recently been given the opportunity to listen to the Burson V6 Classic and the V6 Vivid in my Whammy. Prior to that, I went through many monolithic opamps. The discreet circuit V6 Classic came out the clear winner. The V6 Vivid had a character that I found even clearer and more open than the Classic but not quite as smooth for my taste. I listened using closed back dynamics, open back dynamics and open back planar magnetics. Interestingly, the V6 Classic provided my Sennheiser HD650 headphones with the most balanced, smooth and listenable sound I have ever heard from them, almost like the Classic was designed expressly for them.
