Universal Mounting Specification V3-BETA

The Universal Mounting Specification (UMS) was created in 2012.  The goal of UMS is to save DIYers from one of the biggest hurdles to building their own amplifier, drilling and tapping heatsinks.  If you've ever broken an M3 tap in a heatsink, you know.

In partnership with our designers, the vast majority of the amplifier PCBs sold at diyAudiostore.com meet the UMS.  This allows not only a much more worry-free first build for new DIYers, it allows all DIYers to easily change amplifier boards using the same sets of heatsinks without having to re-drill and tap heatsinks.

In 2024, as part of the updates for the diyAudio Deluxe chassis, we partnered with a cross section of DIYers and experts to review and update the UMS.  We are beta testing the new pattern, and of course, we would appreciate your feedback.

Why Beta?

We are currently working through some manufacturing details which may require altering the pattern.

Will All of My Amplifier Boards Still Mount Properly to the New Heatsinks?

You can have confidence that ALL UMS versions will be reverse compatible for the vast majority of diyAudiostore.com projects.

UMS V3-Beta is not fully compatible with the Honey Badger amplifier boards.  One additional hole per channel would need to be drilled and tapped by the user.
